Person A and B have
voluntary (UAE) or
mandatory (Qatar and
Bahrain) installed the
contact tracing app

Person A meets Person B

Each person’s phone exchanges an
anonymous identifier (periodically
changing encrypted ID) via the app

The identifiers can
be stored on:

User’s device Backend server
(decentralised (centralised
storage) storage)
OR

After a few days health authorities
confirmed Person A is infected with
Person A COVID-19
Automatically, the app uploads
all identifiers of people whom
Persona A has been in contact in
the past days
Government authorities may
quarantine Person A in a government The app sends an anonymous
alert to Person B and all

Person B may be
