SAMENA Council’s Leaders Summit offers a collaborative, workshop-centric
experience to exchange ideas and receive inspiring leadership knowledge from
prominent CEOs, Chairmen, and Senior Executives from the Telecom & ICT
sector from the SAMENA region and beyond. SAMENA Council’s Leaders Summit is
a leaders-only program, designed to explore critical business, policies and
regulatory strategies within the Telecom & ICT landscape. The Summit focuses
on helping to turn your insights into practical results with an emphasis on
the key issues of the Telecom & ICT industry within the SAMENA region.
The scope covers the following anchor themes:
1. Enable practicable strategies, to help reap maximum socio-economic benefit of the digital agenda and adoption of national and sector specific digitization policies that create new growth opportunities for telecom operators and ICT industry stakeholders
2. Accelerate the progress of telecom sector governance and regulation in the region to support the evolving scope, dynamics, and needs of the telecommunications industry, and enable its growth and sustainability

Dr. Nasser Marafih
Chief Executive Officer,
Ooredoo Group
Dr. Nasser Marafih is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ooredoo Group. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, a Master of Science and a PhD in Communication Engineering, all from George Washington University, USA. Dr. Marafih started his career at Ooredoo in 1992 as expert advisor from the University of Qatar and was involved in the introduction of the first GSM service in the Middle East in February 1994. Following his appointment as CEO in 2002, Dr. Marafih spearheaded Ooredoo’s transformation and growth from a single operator in Qatar with 500,000 customers to a leading regional and global player having presence in 17 markets in Middle East, North African and Southeast Asia with more than 96 million customers today.
In addition to masterminding strategic and bold acquisitions including Wataniya in 2007, which was the biggest telecom acquisition in the Arab world at the time, and Indosat in Indonesia in 2009.
Dr. Marafih ensured close partnership with the key global and regional players in the industry’s eco-system to ensure best engagement and provide cutting-edge innovation to customers. These include Skype, Google, Universal Music Group, Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF), Qatar Science and Technology Park and Qatar University wireless Innovations Center (QUWIC). Dr. Marafih is viewed as one of the industry’s visionary leaders and received prestigious awards including “Outstanding Industry contribution 2010 by Telecoms World Middle East, “Outstanding Leader of the Year” by TMT Finance and Investment in 2010, and “CEO of the Year” award and “Leader in Corporate Social Responsibility (CEO) awards by one of the region’s leading publication - Arabian Business. He is also ranked 72 among the world’s top 500 Most Powerful Arab Nationals, in the “Arabian Business Power 500 Survey.” Dr. Marafih’s contribution to the industry in general and the Ooredoo Group in particular were recognized by the GSM Association, the mobile industry’s leading global institution, when he was appointed to its board of directors in 2010.
Mr. Shi Yaohong
Regional President,

Mr. Shi Yaohong is President of Middle East Region for Huawei. In this role, he oversees all Huawei group activities and around 4000 staff. As the regional President, he is also responsible for guiding the organization’s strategic direction, business development as well as leading general operations in the Middle East markets.
Mr. Shi joined Huawei in 2005. Prior to his current position, he held several senior positions in succession within Huawei Middle East including Vice President of Regional Sales and General Director of Etisalat Key Account. With a decade of experience in the telecommunications industry, Mr. Shi has played a key role in many of the company’s milestone projects within the region.
Mr. Shi graduated from Sichuan University with a Bachelor Degree of Electronic Information Science and Technology.
