MainOne says cable system will land in Senegal in September, Cote d'Ivoire in October |
MainOne has confirmed the scheduled landing of the MainOne submarine cable systems in Senegal in September and Cote d’Ivoire in October, reports CommunicationsWeek. The Cable Landing Stations (CLS) in Dakar and Abidjan are complete and ready for the installation of equipment. MainOne is poised to undertake the physical connection of the branching units on its 7,000 km omnibus fibre pair to the shore. The MainOne submarine cable is being installed by the Orange Marine specialist vessel Pierre de Fermat, which has arrived in Dakar. It picked up the fibre and ancillary equipment, including repeaters, from Brest in France earlier in the month. It will proceed to Abidjan to conclude the laying and final splice in October. Ofcom consults on applying Code Powers to Fibrenation, F&W Networks |
UK regulator Ofcom is consulting on proposals to apply code powers to F&W Networks and Fibrenation. Fibrenation, a fully-owned subsidiary of TalkTalk, operates a FTTP access network in York and is currently expanding the network to the neighbouring areas of Ripon, Harrogate and Knaresborough. It is seeking code powers to enable it to operate more independently of TalkTalk and to support the expansion of its network to serve 3 million premises across the UK.
