IoT service subscribers near 6 million recorded in Korea |
The number of South Koreans using Internet of Things services introduced by the country’s three mobile carriers is on the rise, providing a new breakthrough for the telecom companies’ stalled growth, according to government data and industry sources Wednesday. Data from the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning showed 5.95 million Koreans have subscribed to IoT services as of May, accounting for nearly 10 percent of the total number of subscribers of mobile network services, at 61.45 million.

UAE telecom providers offer 50% discount to senior citizens |
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), in cooperation with Etisalat and du, has announced the provision of special data and call packs to UAE seniors. UAE senior citizens get bigger data packs and longer call credits for less, thanks to a new "Year of Giving" initiative. The move is line with "Masarra Card" initiative, launched by Ministry of Community Development to meet the needs and requirements of senior citizens, in recognition of their exemplary role in the community being advocates of preserving traditions and heritage.

Chinese companies all set to launch 5G pilot project |
Three main mobile operators in China are set to launch a pilot 5G project in different cities during the second half of this year. In the first stage, the companies, including China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom will start projects in Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, Ningbo and other cities. During the pilot period, the telecom giants will launch the 5G network for automatic driving, smart city, intelligent family, including car networking, and Internet of things applications.
