TIM Brasil and Huawei have successfully trialled 5G technology using unlicensed spectrum in the 6GHz band. The tests took place in Rio de Janeiro, with the two parties claiming the ‘first successful 6GHz 5G test in the Americas’. The average download speed at a distance of 700 metres reached 888Mbps, with the trial registering peak speeds of 1.38Gbps. The two companies were granted temporary use of the 6GHz spectrum by the National Telecommunications Agency (Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes, Anatel).
Back in March 2021 Anatel approved a proposal to open the complete 5925MHz-7125MHz (6GHz) band for unlicensed Wi-Fi 6E access in Brazil.
