The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has outlined a five-year plan to spur the adoption of ICT services in rural and remote locations in the country.
The regulatory body launched the Universal Service Fund (USF) Strategic Plan which was established by Communications Act number 34 in 2016 to promote universal access to connectivity.
The objective of the USF Fund is to not only promotes access to telecoms but also the access of broadcast and postal services.
On the telecoms side, the USF will fund and offer subsidies for the deployment of communication infrastructure and services provision in underserved areas, where operators are unwilling to invest due to cost reasons, reported CommsUpdate.
