PT Portugal (MEO) has revealed that its 5G network – which was activated on 1 January 2022 – now covers ‘half of the population in the national territory’. In terms of Portugal’s autonomous regions, 5G coverage is available in Ponta Delgada (the capital of the Azores) and Funchal (the capital of Madeira). 4G coverage is currently available to 99.7% of the population, while around six million homes and businesses are passed by the telco’s fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks.
Alexandre Fonseca, Executive President of Altice Portugal, commented: ‘We believe that 5G is a tool to guarantee universal access to communications for all Portuguese people. That’s why 5G is available, from the beginning of the year, in all district capitals, starting a new technological era. From north to south, on the coast and inland and on the islands of Madeira and the Azores. For Altice Portugal, everyone counts.’
