Ayala-led Globe Telecom has announced that its 5G network rollout in Metro Manila continues apace, meaning that 88% of people living in the National Capital Region (NCR) are now covered by its signal. Previously, the company had said that despite the additional hurdles presented by local pandemic precautions, it had expanded its 5G mobile network coverage to 1,383 sites in the NCR, Bacolod, Boracay, Cebu, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro and Davao as of 31 March 2021.
Commenting on the latest rollout update, the cellco’s chief commercial officer, Issa Guevarra-Cabreira, said: ‘We expect more installations of 5G cell sites for the remaining six months of the year as the demand for 5G technology will continue to rise even further’. Globe has also scaled up its rollout of the next generation technology in several cities in Visayas, including Cebu, Bacolod and Iloilo. Further, it has also deployed 5G in Mindanao – targeting Davao City and Cagayan de Oro City – while it is also installing new 5G cell towers in General Santos.
