Ukrainian cellco Kyivstar has announced the implementation of VoLTE technology on its 4G network, claiming a national first.
The operator said on its website that VoLTE calls should be accessible across the LTE network – currently reaching 85% of Ukraine’s population – by the end of 2020, while accessibility on different manufacturers’ smartphones will be activated in phases.
Apple iPhone devices will support VoLTE immediately, while other popular smartphone models will follow during 2021. Premium contract subscribers will gain VoLTE access first, followed eventually by all subscribers. Kyivstar’s president Oleksandr Komarov declared: ‘Thanks to this technology, not only residents of large cities, but also villages, will get the best quality of voice communication.’ The company also stressed to subscribers that calls made via VoLTE do not affect mobile data charges.
