Bahrain’s first satellite to undergo a series of technical tests next March

Transportation and Telecommunications Minister and Board of Directors Chairman of the National Space Science Agency (NSSA), Kamal Ahmed, held a meeting with the Bahrain Space Team, currently in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Director-General of the UAE Space Agency, Dr. Mohammed Nasser Al-Ahbabi, NSSA’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mohamed E. Al-Aseeri, and a number of senior officials from both sides also participated in the virtual meeting.

The minister was informed about the work of the Bahrain Space Team and their research projects, in addition to the challenges they are facing in their studies during the current circumstances and ways to overcome them.

The meeting discussed the ongoing joint Bahrain-UAE projects, the most prominent achievements and a number of future projects to be implemented in a way that would contribute to achieving the objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding concluded between the two parties.

In this regard, the minister was informed about the progress made in the joint 3U Satellite project, which is being implemented by young scientists from the two brotherly countries

The 3U CubeSat, Bahrain’s first satellite, will also undergo a series of technical tests next March to ensure its compatibility with the launch criteria. It is expected to be launched to the International Space Station next August 2021, and into space in October of the same year.

On the occasion, the Transportation Minister expressed pride in Bahraini youth’s enthusiasm and great passion for acquiring knowledge and modern science, as well as for their quick mastery of such knowledge in record time.

He asserted that the praise of the relevant officials in the UAE Space Agency of the members of the Bahrain Space Team proves their good selection, and the kingdom’s success in investing in building national space capacities.

The minister also praised the efforts made by the UAE Space Agency to ensure the success of all cooperation projects with NSSA. He also commended the efforts of NSSA and all members of the Bahrain Space Team to achieve the national goals.

NSSA Chief Executive expressed delight at the meeting which, he said, affirmed the minister’s keenness to follow up closely on NSSA’s work, noting that it will motivate the members of the Bahrain Space Team to be more dedicated in serving the homeland.

He also extended thanks and appreciation to those in charge of the UAE Space Agency for their constant care, which led the Bahrain Space Team to reach an exceptional level in the fields of space engineering and science in a relatively record time.
