Cable and IPTV grow in Hungary

Hungary’s pay-TV market remains dominated by digital cable and IPTV services.

The most recent figures published by the regulator NMHH show that the number of subscribers using these technologies to access pay-TV services grew from 1.989 million to 1.992 million in June this year.

As of the end of the month, they accounted for 58.2% of all pay-TV subscribers.

At the same time, wireless (DTH and MMDS) subscriptions fell to 700,000, equivalent to a market share of 23%. The number of MinDig TV Extra (pay-DTT) subscribers stood at 88,000, while the percentage receiving analogue cable stayed unchanged at 18.8%.

Magar Telekom was the leading provider of pay-TV services irrespective of technology in June, with a share of 31%. It was followed by Digi (29.2%), Vodafone (18.8%) and UPC Direct (6.2%).

Telekom was also the market leader in fixed pay-TV services (31.6%), while Digi (32.1%) led in the wireless sector.
