AT&T Fiber expands FTTH network

The AT&T Fiber network now extends into 84 metro areas with the addition of 12 markets. The company says it has added more than 3 million locations to its fiber to the home (FTTH) footprint this year. This year’s work brings the total to more than 10 million locations.

The 12 new metro areas where AT&T Fiber now has a presence include:

  • Amarillo, TX
  • Beaumont, TX
  • Bowling Green, KY
  • Florence, SC
  • Gainesville, FL
  • Hattiesburg, MS
  • Lake Charles, LA
  • Northeast MS
  • Panama City, FL
  • Pensacola, FL
  • Topeka, KS
  • Waco, TX

AT&T says its continuing FTTH footprint expansion should see it reach at least 14 million locations by mid-2019. The company offers a range of symmetrical FTTH broadband options, including AT&T Internet 100, AT&T Internet 300, and AT&T Internet 1000, with the numbers indicating the marketed speed in megabits/second.

The service provider launched the AT&T Fiber brand in October 2016 (see “AT&T renames FTTP service, plans additional markets”). It previously marketed its FTTH services as “AT&T U-verse with GigaPower.”
