Peru's communications ministry (MTC) has announced that 45,291 localities throughout the country had mobile coverage at the end of the second quarter of 2018, some 23 percent more than at the end of Q2 2016. The penetration of 4G technology has grown 1,035 percent over the same period, with regions such as Callao, Tumbes, Ica, Lambayeque and San Martin now boasting 30 percent and above coverage, said the ministry.
Earlier this year, the country’s regulator Osiptel said LTE coverage reached 30,085 population centres across the country at the end of 2017 versus 5,685 in 2016. Bitel led the increase, expanding to 16,464 towns from just 414 in 2016. Claro came second with 6,480 towns covered, Movistar was at 3,741 and Entel reached 3,400.
