Televisa launches BFWA service via Blue Telecomm

Mexican media giant Grupo Televisa has launched a new broadband fixed-wireless access (BFWA) service for residential users under the Blue Telecomm name, El Financiero reports.

Two packages are listed on the Blue Telecomm website: a 5Mbps subscription for MXN225 (USD12.3) per month and a 10Mbps subscription for MX375 per month. Installation is priced at MXN849. The precise platform and spectrum being used by Blue Telecomm remains unclear, however. Interestingly, customers are also able to buy cable broadband connectivity from Blue Telecomm; this service likely leverages the HFC networks of Televisa’s numerous subsidiaries (see below). This year both Movistar and AT&T Mexico have utilised their respective cellular networks to launch fixed-wireless connectivity for residential users.

Televisa is a major player in the Mexican telecoms sector, via its ownership of Izzi Telecom, Cablevision (TVI), Cablecom, Cablemas and Telecable. The cablecos’ collective footprint spans Mexico City, Monterrey, Tijuana, Zapopan, Ciudad Juarez, Queretaro, Merida, Mexicali, Chihuahua, San Luis Potosi, Aguascalientes, and a number of other major cities.
