As Mascom Wireless turns 20 years this week, it became first operator in Botswana, to make commercial offers for Fibre to the Home (FTTH) service.
The very first customer, to sign up for this service, Odirile Motlhale, commented that he was looking forward to fibre enabled high speed internet at guaranteed speeds and also have mobile data that could be shared by multiple users at his home.
In order to launch FTTH, a first for the Botswana telecommunications market, Mascom laid fibre in an area of Phakalane which covers approximately 500 Botswana Housing Corporation houses.
Mascom has made significant investment in the network to enable it to offer communication and lifestyle services utilizing fibre as the mode of delivery. FTTH is a fixed broadband for the home, and it will allow residents of the fibre enabled location very high speed and stable internet access in the comfort of their homes.
This will undoubtedly afford them a superior customer experience that is shared by household members.
The Mascom offering, “MyFixed BB” was launched with a choice of three packages providing unlimited and guaranteed speeds to suit the customer’s needs. In addition to having fixed data access while at home, the packages also have additional data allocated for usage on mobile devices to serve customer’s needs when they are away from home.
Shortly in addition to the FTTH, we will provide an option to connect an Internet Protocol phone for users to make voice calls. We believe that this investment in FTTH is an indication of our bold move into “Fixed-line Services” as we celebrate 20 years existence.
