Movistar, Ecuador’s second largest mobile operator by subscribers, has announced it has extended its 4G LTEnetwork to a total of ten cities with the two recent additions of Riobamba and Latacunga, writes Diario los Andes. Head of External Communication at Telefonica Movistar, Renan Ordonez commented: ‘We know that networking is a gradual process of implementation. It was the same with 2G and 3G, and now also with 4G.’ Ordonez also noted that the city of Riobamba is key for the company due to the high number of subscribers in the area.
TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that as of 31 March 2017 Movistar Ecuador had a total of 4.545 million mobile subscribers (including 747,925 LTE customers), giving it a market share of 30.4% at that date.
