Hong Kong's HKBN and Towngas Telecom have announced plans to expand their collaboration to increase their joint presence in the residential and corporate telecoms markets.
HKBN and Towngas Telecom have two joint ventures, BROADBANDgo and TGgo, and plan to expedite extension of their joint fiber network coverage and enhance their cloud offerings.
BROADBANDgo combines HKBN's fiber and Wi-Fi technology expertise with Towngas Telecom's infrastructure coverage to provide broadband connectivity to tenants of select residential properties.
With the expanded collaboration, the joint venture also plans to expand fiber coverage to low-density and remote residential areas not covered by the companies' fiber networks.
HKBN's fiber network currently covers around 81% of Hong Kong's total residential units – around 2.2 million homes - as well as more than 2,300 commercial buildings.
TGgo meanwhile offers cloud services including cloud server and backup services. The joint venture will introduce new offerings including cloud storage, virtual desktop and site recovery.
“Our strategic partnership with Towngas Telecom demonstrates what’s possible when two innovative leaders join hands to achieve a dual-win situation,” HKBN CEO William Yeung said.
“We are geared up to capture more business opportunities in both the residential and corporate markets, bringing customers best-in-class telecom solutions at highly competitive prices.”
