4G technology triggers India’s data traffic growth

According to a report by Nokia, India’s 4G drove the data traffic in 2016 with high-speed mobile broadband technology. 4G contributed nearly 60% of the incremental data volume.

In India, the overall data traffic rose 29% in 2016 despite of marginal penetration, and in a year of launch the network contributed 13% to total traffic data. While the 4G network data traffic contributed 26% in metros. Whereas to the total data payload, the 3G network contributed 63%.

Both the networks combined 4G and 3G form 76% of the total data traffic. While, 2G usage saw a drop-in volume by 13% and the two networks witnessed a rise in usage.

The 4G data usage per customer was almost double the average consumption of 3G data, according to the study, published in a leading business daily.
