CRA Qatar concludes World Consumer Rights Day

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) concluded its World Consumer Rights Day event with a visit by HE Minister of Transport and Communications, Jassim bin Seif Al-Sulaiti. March 15 is marked internationally to promote the basic rights of all consumers, and to encourage protection of these rights. CRA hosted a booth at City Center mall from Saturday, March 12 to Tuesday, March 15, to help the mall visitors better understand their consumer rights and CRA’s consumer protection initiatives and processes.

His Excellency was accompanied by Mohammed Ali Al-Mannai, President of the CRA, for a familiarization tour conducted by Amel Salam Al-Hanawi, Consumer Affairs Department Manager. Al-Hanawi briefed His Excellency about CRA’s consumer protection initiatives, public services and the upcoming Codes on spam and premium rate services.

CRA received more than 60 complaints during the four days mainly about billing, network coverage, roaming charges, service disconnections, spam, premium services and delays in activation and installation. These complaints will be investigated and resolved following the CRA complaint process.

With an estimated 50,000 visitors on weekends and 40,000 on weekdays, CRA was able to engage a large number of citizens and residents in City Center face-to-face. The Consumer Affairs Department is planning more engagement and outreach activities to enhance consumers awareness.

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) is the communications regulator in the state of Qatar established by virtue of Emiri Decree (42) in 2014. CRA regulates the communications & information technology sector, postal services, and access to digital media. CRA uses its regulatory powers mandated by the Emiri decree to protect consumer rights, ensure competition, manage the resolution of disputes, and manage the electromagnetic spectrum. In all its activities, the CRA seeks to ensure the provision of advanced, innovative and reliable ICT and postal services across the state of Qatar.
