China Unicom and Huawei release world's largest 5G-A 100 MHz GigaUplink network

Recently, China Unicom Beijing and Huawei launched the world's largest 5G-A GigaUplink commercial network. This innovative network achieves continuous coverage of the 100 MHz network in key areas across Beijing, with over 10,000 base stations deployed. During a live drive test, seven invited third-party media representatives served as "Experience Officers" to witness the network's "excellent coverage and stable service experience." The results demonstrated a 100 MHz uplink effective ratio of 83% and a mere 0.1% proportion of cell-edge weak points (< 20 Mbps). These outstanding live network test results indicate that China Unicom's premium network in Beijing has evolved from citywide 5G-A deployment to a new development stage of region-wide GigaUplink capabilities.

During the live drive test, China Unicom Beijing utilized 3.5 GHz + 2.1 GHz coordinated networking to support the evaluation of large uplink network metrics and AI device service experiences. Along the 34-kilometer test route, the network recorded a 100 MHz uplink effective ratio of 83%, a peak uplink rate of 1 Gbps, an average uplink rate of 397 Mbps, and a 72% proportion of ultimate uplink experience (> 300 Mbps). The proportion of cell-edge weak points (< 20 Mbps) was only 0.1%. This exceptional uplink network performance fully supported seamless experiences in vehicle-mounted mobile scenarios, including millisecond-level transmission and seamless interaction for AI glasses, smooth communication between AI phones and Agents, and real-time cloud transmission for AI analysis and content generation by smart cameras (shoot-and-upload).

Miao Shouye, Senior Vice President of China Unicom, pointed out: "Currently, artificial intelligence is accelerating its integration into production and daily life. New services such as AI phones, AI glasses, smart robots, industrial vision, and low-altitude applications are continuously emerging, profoundly changing network connection objects and business models. In the past, mobile networks focused more on 'download speeds' and information acquisition efficiency. However, as we enter the Mobile AI era, an increasing amount of data is generated on-site and needs to be transmitted to the cloud in real time for analysis and processing. Networks must not only 'download fast' but also 'transmit stably and accurately.' Large uplink capabilities are becoming an essential foundation for supporting real-time interaction in the AI era, enabling the network to better connect, perceive, and serve the real world."

David Li, President of Huawei's Wireless TDD Product Line, stated: "As the 5G Capital project enters its sixth year—progressing from global large-scale 5G-A demonstrations, to citywide commercial deployment and the release of the world's first 5G-A 3D smart network, and now to the launch of the world's largest 5G-A 100 MHz GigaUplink commercial network—I am highly honored to support China Unicom in maintaining its network leadership through Huawei's innovative 3.5 GHz + 2.1 GHz SUL (Supplementary Uplink) solution. Huawei will continue to innovate in technological directions such as multi-band pooling, uplink enhancement, and multi-dimensional coordination. We are committed to supporting China Unicom in building a high-quality, user-experience-centric 5G-A network, embracing the opportunities and challenges of the Mobile AI era, and achieving win-win outcomes for the industry."

Facing the Mobile AI era, networks are taking on new missions. Huawei will continue to collaborate with China Unicom to advance network capability evolution and strengthen industrial ecosystem cooperation. By leveraging smarter, deterministic network capabilities to serve industrial innovation, urban development, and a better quality of life, both parties will jointly open a new era of intelligent connectivity.
