US$1.5 billion opportunity exists for GCC telecom operators venturing into drones |
|
|
|
The market for drones in the GCC could reach US$1.5 billion by 2022. Much of this will come from oil and gas, and utilities — which respectively are projected to constitute 43 percent and 32 percent of the market. The drone technology has rapidly expanded beyond its original military purposes, and has now entered the commercial sector. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) projects that the number of commercial drones in the U.S. will reach almost three million by 2020, quadruple the number in 2016.

Global telecom players making cautious 5G deployments |
With the first set of 5G mobile communications standards slated to be released by 3GPP by the end of 2017, global telecom players are gearing up for deployments, but in a cautious manner. To meet the actual needs of telecom players, the upcoming 3GPP 5G standards will be dedicated to the operations of non-independent communications networks, the sources said. As a result, unlike 3G and 4G mobile communications which were rolled out as independent networks, 5G is very likely to become the first next-generation mobile network technology to start with non-independent networks, according to industry insiders...

Swiss telecom company may enter Pakistan |
The Global Message Services (GMS) AG, a telecommunication services provider in Switzerland, is planning to enter the Pakistan's telecom market within few months. GMS is a global telecommunications company and network operator which specializes in SMS- and MMS- services, mobile marketing, and business Information Technology (IT) solutions. GMS was founded in 2006, is a GSMA associate member, a licensed telecommunications operator in Ukraine and an approved telecommunication services provider in Switzerland.
