Boldyn Networks has revealed plans to deploy a 4G mobile network at the world’s largest offshore windfarm, off the UK coast, as the international digital infra group looks to establish itself as the ‘partner of choice’ for network deployments in “complex” environments.
Boldyn’s network will support the Hornsea 3 wind farm’s ‘offices at sea’. The 4G network will also connect software systems and construction equipment being used to build the wind farm.
The network will support high voltage direct current technology, which Boldyn flagged as a key capability in transferring generated power over long distances more efficiently, and in turn “reduce the costs and materials required” for the project.
Sean Keating, Managing Director of Professional & Cloud Services at Boldyn, said the agreement showcases the infra group’s ability to deliver wireless solutions in “complex and challenging environments”.
Boldyn has demonstrated its ability to carry out network deployments in comparable locations, with offshore projects including Vilicom’s (now under the Boldyn marque) rollout of a private network at the Moray East wind farm in Scotland, and the establishment of a 4G network at Ørsted’s Hornsea 2.
