Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang has reportedly approved the country’s national data strategy up to 2030, which includes a plan to establish a national data services market.
According to VNEconomy, the data market strategy involves interconnecting all national data centres, regional data centres, and national centres for large data storage and high performance computing across the country.
Vietnam also plans to digitalize all national databases, which will serve as a foundation for the development of e-government and connecting with other databases.
The strategy also calls for development of models to develop markets for data brokerage and data services, the report said.
The overall objective is to leverage data to transform Vietnam into a “digital nation” by opening up “new operations and development space for the digital government, the digital economy, and the digital society”, the report said.
Vietnam is also banking on data to boost national competitiveness and restructure the economy to be driven by a stronger middle class in terms of income by 2030, according to the report.
