German telco Deutsche Telekom is equipping its TV platform MagentaTV with a new user interface on February 15, 2024.
The new platform, which is based on Google’s Android system, combines TV and streaming. On a personalised start page, customers can arrange their favourite apps according to their preferences for direct access, just like on a smartphone. Frequently used content also automatically appears at the top.
The search function, which also works via voice control, covers TV, streaming and partner content, such as Netflix, Disney+ and RTL+. Information about a format is displayed at a glance: If content is available free of charge from MagentaTV or partners, it is marked in green colour. Viewers can select the service from which they want to access the content by one click.
The on-demand service Megathek, which contains films and series, is renamed MagentaTV+ as part of the revamp.
The new version of MagentaTV can be accessed with the current Telekom hardware – MagentaTV One Box or MagentaTV Stick -, but not via the TV receiver with hard drive (MR400/401/601 Sat, MagentaTV Box) or the add-on receiver (MR 200/201 Box PLAY). Telekom recommends customers with these devices to upgrade to MagentaTV One.
