Canadian ISP Mage Networks signs deal for Telesat Lightspeed

Canadian internet service provider Mage Networks signed an MoU with Telesat for its Lightspeed Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite services, to expand broadband access in Canada. Mage Networks is based in Alberta, Canada, and offers a service called MagiNet that blends wireless and wired connections to connect people in rural and remote areas.

Mage Networks plans to integrate commercial and technical aspects of Lightspeed into its services portfolio, with the goal of contracting Telesat Lightspeed services. The companies plan to work together to develop demand and traffic projections and network performance criteria for different market segments to identify business and operating models.

Mage Networks said it will use the Lightspeed capacity pool that was established through a partnership between Telesat and Canada’s government. This connectivity is available at greatly reduced rates to provide connectivity for eligible communities.

“Mage Networks understands the hardships facing people living in remote communities that don’t have the same technological access that others do,” said Dr. Sayed-Amr (Sisso) El-Hamamsy, Co-founder, President and CEO, Mage Networks. “By integrating Mage Network’s hybrid solutions with Telesat Lightspeed LEO capacity we will be able to deliver reliable, redundant, affordable service to more people, in less time and at reduced cost.”
