Rival operators Algerie Telecom (AT) and Ooredoo Algeria have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) relating to ‘the exchange of innovative services between the two companies’, AT announced on its website. The MoU, inked on 9 January 2024, sets out protocols to strengthens cooperation between the two parties within a public–private partnership framework, aiming ‘to develop a solid and beneficial collaborative approach, with in particular the common interest of highlighting the expertise of each of the two parties in order to enrich the innovative technological solutions and services offered on the Algerian market’, AT stated.
Under the MoU, AT – which operates in the mobile market via its Mobilis division – and Ooredoo ‘undertake to implement a partnership programme setting the terms and conditions for the intervention of each party, particularly in terms of sharing services and infrastructure’. AT CEO Adel Bentoumi declared: ‘This strategic alliance with Ooredoo marks an essential milestone for Algerie Telecom. Our commitment to consolidating our strengths and exploiting our respective skills aims to offer innovative services in line with the needs of the Algerian market. This collaboration … illustrates our common commitment to respond effectively to the expectations of our customers in a constantly evolving telecoms environment.’
The Ooredoo/AT pact follows a partnership MoU signed on 27 December 2023 between AT and fellow state-owned network operator Djezzy ‘aimed at further strengthening their fruitful collaboration with the aim of offering high quality services to citizens.’ A press release said that ‘this new strategic partnership … extends over several areas, including in particular the promotion of products and services, as well as the development of digital content’. Note that an initial partnership agreement between AT and Djezzy was signed in December 2022.
