True Move takes over Dtac’s 900-MHz spectrum payments

True Corp’s mobile arm True Move H Universal Communication (TUC) says it has paid THB 4 billion baht (US$116.3 million) for the sixth instalment fee for 900-MHz spectrum originally acquired by Dtac TriNet (DTN).

True Corp said it paid the instalment to the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) on December 28, and also submitted a Letter of Guarantee from financial institutions to secure the remaining spectrum fee payments.

DTN successfully bid 38 billion baht for 2 x 5 MHz spectrum in the 890-895/935-940 MHz band in October 2018. TUC inherited all of DTN’s spectrum when it finalised its merger with Dtac last year.

“According to the law, TUC is required to adhere to the NBTC’s initial notification, which includes conditions for paying the 900 MHz spectrum license fee,” True Corp said in a statement.

The 900-MHz licence is valid for 15 years and will expire in 2033.

The combined True-Dtac network has spectrum in the 700 MHz, 850 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz, and 26 GHz bands.
