Algerian Parliament head advocates for technology integration in education

In a parliamentary meeting focused on “study curricula and future curricula,” Ibrahim Bougali, President of Algeria’s National People’s Assembly, stressed the importance of incorporating technology into education.

He highlighted the need to align it with social and economic transformations, emphasizing the pivotal role of education in societal progress and development.

Emphasizing The Importance of Education

Bougali expressed appreciation to the head of the Committee for Education, Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Religious Affairs, along with its office and members, for their significant contributions to such a crucial topic.

He asserted that education is the bedrock of progress and civilization, and any dialogue about development and progress would be futile without a robust educational system in place.

While acknowledging the need for teaching techniques and tools to adapt to evolving times, Bougali insisted on the preservation of certain constants within the education system. Elements like national identity, sense of belonging, history, and societal characteristics, he argued, are fundamental to ensuring social cohesion and national unity.

Adapting To Modern World Technologies

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s strategies and the Ministry of Education’s commitment to enforcing the law, respecting references, and unifying the educational system received praise from Bougali.

He stressed the importance of adapting to the technologies of the modern world, including digitization and artificial intelligence, and considered them vital to addressing current educational challenges. Bougali concluded by reinforcing the President’s vision of integrated sustainable development, with human development at its core.

This vision, he said, is facilitated by a well-structured curriculum, clear goals, continuous evaluation, and foresight.

Implications For The Future

President Bougali’s stance echoes global trends, with a recent report titled ‘AI In the Classroom 2023-2024: Promises and Perils’ discussing the rise of Artificial Intelligence in education and edtech firms meeting the demand.

The report suggests that the use of large language model AIs in schools will grow from $3.68 billion in 2023 to $173.39 billion by 2033. Successful implementations of EON Reality’s EON-XR platform in institutions such as Los Angeles Community College and the University of Business & Technology further attest to the potential of integrating technology into education, yielding increased student performance and reduced training time.
