The Ministry of Information Technology and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have introduced a new mobile registration system designed explicitly for Overseas Pakistanis and Foreign Nationals visiting the country.
As per the PTA, individuals falling under this category can operate their personal mobile phones in Pakistan without undergoing any taxation or duties for a duration of 120 days from their arrival date in the country.
An announcement via PTA's official channel emphasized that individuals interested in availing this provision should visit the designated link at https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk/drs. Upon visiting the site, users are required to create an account, choosing the category of 'Overseas Pakistanis and Foreign Citizens,' and subsequently register their mobile phone.
This initiative hails back to the tenure of former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, initially implemented to extend free usage privileges to overseas Pakistanis and foreign nationals for a 120-day period without the imposition of customs duties. To benefit from this arrangement, individuals within this category will need to reapply for the free registration facility each time they arrive in Pakistan.
Create an Account: Sign up and create an account by providing necessary details
Choose Temporary Registration: Select the Temporary Registration option and proceed with the registration process
Submit Personal Details: Fill out the registration form with accurate personal details, including password, aligning them with the information used during immigration
Verification: Upon submission, users will receive an email and SMS for verification. Activate your account by following the link provided in the SMS/Mail
Login and Declaration: Log in to the portal with your credentials, where you will encounter a declaration form. Agree to the Terms & Conditions and select 'Temporary Registration for Overseas Pakistanis/Foreign Nationals
Enter Details: Provide necessary information, including ID card number or Passport number, entry and departure dates, and mobile network operator
Generate OTP: Submit the form to generate a six-digit OTP. Enter this OTP in the designated section to activate your account successfully
