Zain fosters environmental awareness and action

Under its strategic partnership with the Kuwait Dive Team, and in a step to foster more environmental awareness and action, Zain has joined the team’s recently launched 9th beach cleanup campaign. The weekly initiative targets schoolchildren from the elementary and middle school levels, and is held in partnership with the Youth Public Authority.

The company recently participated in a press conference to announce the campaign’s kick-off, attended by Zain Kuwait Chief Corporate Affairs and Relations Officer Waleed Al Khashti, Kuwait Dive Team Director Waleed Al Fadhel, and Volunteer Work Department Manager at the Youth Public Authority Waleed Al Ansari.

Zain was present at the campaign’s debut session at Sulaibikhat beach, joined by enthusiastic girls from a local elementary school. Before the cleanup, the girls were introduced to the Kuwait Dive Team’s mission, goals, and achievements, then shown an outline of the day’s plan. The productive session was supervised by the school’s teachers, Kuwait Dive Team’s members, and Zain’s team.

This campaign continues weekly and is joined by hundreds of schoolchildren who are eager to make positive change. It aims to introduce young people to volunteer work from an early age, while fostering a sense of environmental sustainability through action. The campaign covers key local beaches, and is joined by companies, nonprofits, and government agencies.

This initiative falls under Zain’s long-term strategic partnership with the Kuwait Dive Team, which continues this year for over 25 years. As part of this partnership, the company recently presented a fully equipped boat to aid the team’s marine protection operations in Kuwait. This was the fourth boat presented by Zain to the team during their partnership that started back in 1997.

Zain’s boat is used by the team’s volunteers to run and maintain hundreds of marine protection missions, resulting in the removal of thousands of tons of harmful waste, and the protection of tens of thousands of sea creatures.

Operations conducted using the boat include installing and maintaining marine cleats, removing discarded fishing nets, debris, and other harmful waste, and protecting sea creatures, shipping lanes, and coasts from pollution. The boat is also used to monitor coral reefs, preserve and rehabilitate coastlines, and document Kuwait’s rich marine environment.

Zain puts environmental sustainability at the forefront of its priorities. The company’s social message seeks to create a culture of sustainability within the community by advocating practices like reducing consumption, recycling, using renewable sources of energy, preserving the marine environment, and more.
