nexfibre publishes first quarterly update on network rollout progress

nexfibre, the joint venture company set up in December 2022 by Virgin Media O2’s (VMO2’s) parent companies Liberty Global and Telefonica, as well as InfraVia Capital Partners, has published its first quarterly network rollout report.

With this report updating on the progress made by the company so far in its deployment of a fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) network, nexfibre has confirmed that its infrastructure passed a total of 505,303 premises as of 30 September 2023. Looking ahead, meanwhile, the company noted that the next stage of its network build will see its footprint expand ‘significantly’ across the UK in 2024, with areas including Cheshire, Durham and Kent expected to benefit specifically.

Commenting on the progress made to date, nexfibre CEO Rajiv Datta said: ‘I could not be prouder of the progress that has been made in ramping up our build programme this year; thanks to the huge efforts of our team and our partners at VMO2. We continue to accelerate the pace of build as we pursue our mission of transforming access to quality broadband across the UK.’

Ultimately, nexfibre aims to reach a total of five million premises across the UK with full fibre connectivity by 2026, while it says there is the ‘opportunity to expand to an additional two million premises’. VMO2 is nexfibre’s anchor wholesale tenant, though the latter does intend to make its network available to other ISPs.
