Starlink bags Paraguay licence

Paraguay is the latest market in which Starlink has procured a licence for satellite broadband.

The licence has been conferred by Paraguay’s National Telecommunications Council (Consejo Nacional de Telecomunicaciones, Conatel), with the government claiming that this authorisation will help deliver low-latency broadband to even the most remote regions of Paraguay.

Paraguay’s President Santiago Pena said: “Connecting all our territory to the digital world is a key step to fulfilling our government goals…Connectivity to the internet is more than technology; it is also inclusion and opportunities to improve the quality of life of all Paraguayans, no matter where they are.”

Starlink has been licensed to provide satellite broadband in over 60 countries. CommsUpdate reports that it plans to launch services in Paraguay in 2024, alongside operations in neighbouring Argentina, Bolivia and Uruguay.
