Brightspeed updates on FTTH rollout progress

Brightspeed – the US ISP that was created in October 2022 when Lumen Technologies sold its incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) business in 20 states to Apollo-backed funds for USD7.5 billion – has said that it is on course to meet its target of one million fibre passings by end-2023. A company representative told Fierce Telecom that fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services are ‘already open for sale’ in parts of the following 13 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin. In addition to those states, Brightspeed is ‘actively deploying’ fibre in Illinois, Kansas, Michigan and South Carolina.

The telco, which presides over DSL networks passing 6.5 million homes and businesses in rural and suburban communities, launched its new FTTH network on 1 March 2023 and expects to pass three million homes and businesses with fibre in the next five years.
