Somalia invites feedback on National 5G Strategy

Somalia’s National Communications Authority (NCA) has opened a consultation process for its National 5G Strategy.

Focusing on the deployment of 5G infrastructure across the country, the strategy is intended to “nurture economic growth and innovation, establish regulatory frameworks, champion research leadership, and introduce notable societal advancements.”

As reported by CommsUpdate, the strategy sets out a roadmap for the allocation of 5G spectrum and the associated deployment of infrastructure so as to ensure equitable and affordable access to advanced internet and communication services across Somalia.

Ahmed Dirie, Minister for Communications and Technology, said: “The 5G draft strategy reflects the Ministry of Communication and Technology’s ICT Policy and Strategy 2019-24, dedicated to advancing communication and technology in Somalia. The launch of this consultation invites all stakeholders to share their insights and recommendations for this strategy.”

The strategy proposed harmonised spectrum integration in several bands, including the 700MHz, 1427MHz-1518MHz, 3300MHz-4200MHz, 26GHz and 28GHz ranges. Feedback from the public as well as industry stakeholders will be accepted until 2nd November 2023.
