UScellular launches 5G mid-band network in Jackson

UScellular announced that they have launched their 5g mid-band network, which should enhance the mobile, home and business internet experience for Jackson-area customers.

"Broader 5G coverage with mid-band technology provides consumers and businesses with even faster data connection speeds for a better experience at home or on-the-go," said Marlon Bailey, director of sales for Wisconsin at UScellular, in the release. "This new 5G technology builds on our current network in Jackson, and we will continue to add more mid-band capable smartphones, tablets, routers and IoT devices in the coming months and years."

According to the release, all UScellular cell towers in the Jackson area have been upgraded already, and customers should be experiencing faster speeds today.

"This new 5G network has more capacity and low latency for smoother data processing and can deliver speeds up to 10x faster than 4G LTE and current low-band 5G networks," said the release.

The mid-band network will also improve home and business internet through fixed wireless technology, according to the release "With fixed wireless, a home or business wirelessly connects to a nearby cell tower, providing a high-speed broadband connection via a wireless signal, as opposed to the wired connection provided by fiber or cable," said the release.

According to the release, UScellular will continue to deploy its 5G mid-band around the state and country, and expects to be able to provide their upgraded network to 1 million homes by the end of the year, and 3 million homes by the end of 2024.
