Exascale expands FTTP broadband to south of Telford and Wrekin

Shropshire-based UK ISP and alternative network provider Exascale, which has already built their own gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to around 2,000 premises (mostly around Telford and Wrekin), has announced that they’re moving their network build further south.

Just to recap. Exascale is a smaller operator that has been gradually expanding their Dark Fibre and FTTP network at their own pace, starting with the northern part of Telford (target of c.4,000 premises) and more recently expanding across a small patch of West Bromwich. They’ve also used gigabit vouchers to tackle a few smaller rural locations.

However, in a very brief and vague announcement today, the provider said they’re going to be expanding their full fibre network to the south of Telford & Wrekin. The company went on to say they aim to connect both urban and rural homes and businesses as part of this expansion.

Exascale’s CEO, Thomas Bibb, said:

“This is a very exciting time for Exascale, as we continue to build new Gigabit / Full Fibre networks and connect customers, despite the current economical challenges facing our businesses and consumers in the UK. This new expansion scheme is funded through demand, working with local developers and government initiatives.”

Sadly, the announcement doesn’t name any of the locations they’ll be targeting in the new expansion or how many premises will be reached.
