ZET-Mobile embarks on ‘second stage’ national network modernisation project

Tajik cellco Tacom – trading as ZET-Mobile – has announced the launch of a ‘second stage’ nationwide project to modernise its network, incorporating the introduction of new technologies.

Under the programme, new 4G base stations will be installed in all regions of Tajikistan, on the back of a ‘first stage of technical modernisation’ carried out in capital city Dushanbe during the first half of 2023 via which total LTE base stations in the city increased by 40%, with its ‘4G+’ footprint also expanded. ZET-Mobile’s latest release also highlights that its technicians have implemented a project to launch a virtual core network for data transmission (Virtual Evolved Packet Core [vEPC]) supporting 5G services.

Back in summer 2021 ZET-Mobile switched on access to a fledgling 5G network in selected parts of Dushanbe, with 5G coverage subsequently expanded to certain sections of two other cities, Bokhtar and Khujand.
