UNOPS Bangladesh hosts SDG cafe session

Continuing its series of impactful sessions, UNOPS Bangladesh organised a highly successful SDG Cafe event recently. The event, held at the UNOPS Bangladesh Office, gathered esteemed guests from the government, development sector, and private sector to participate in insightful discussions centered around the theme "Digital Transformation and SDG: Challenges and Opportunities for Bangladesh."

The event featured the distinguished presence of Prof. Syed Munir Khasru, Chairman of the Institute for Policy, Advocacy, and Governance (IPAG), as the keynote speaker. Prof. Khasru's expert insights highlighted the intricate interplay between digital transformation and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on SDGs 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). He emphasized that while Bangladesh has made considerable progress in pursuit of the SDGs, there remain untapped areas for even greater innovation and industrialization. His discourse underscored the potential of technology-driven solutions in addressing challenges and harnessing opportunities for a more sustainable future in Bangladesh.

Distinguished representatives from various sectors including the ICT Division Bangladesh, the World Bank, GIZ Bangladesh, EU, Women in Digital, Dhaka Cast Ltd, and Synesis IT PLC, graced the event. Their active participation and valuable insights underscored the importance of collaborative efforts spanning multiple sectors in advancing sustainable development. Dr. Fahreen, Founder of Dhaka Cast, noted the need to bridge the technological gap among remote communities: "As we strive to reach underserved populations, we often observe that many lack access to technology. Furthermore, even with access to mobile phones and the internet, they may lack the skills to fully utilize these resources. Alongside technological advancement, it's essential to increase awareness among the intended beneficiaries."

Sudhir Muralidharan, Country Director of UNOPS Bangladesh, expressed gratitude for the engaged participants and their dedication to driving positive change. He emphasized UNOPS' commitment to introducing innovative digital solutions aligned with the SDGs. Muralidharan stated, "The active participation of esteemed stakeholders in this edition of the SDG Cafe is heartening. At UNOPS, we are committed to integrating innovative digital solutions into our projects to advance the SDGs. Together, we can propel Bangladesh towards a digitally inclusive and sustainable future."

The SDG Cafe series continues to serve as a vibrant platform for meaningful dialogue and knowledge sharing critical to the advancement of sustainable development in Bangladesh. UNOPS Bangladesh extends its appreciation to all participants and eagerly anticipates further collaborative initiatives that contribute to the realization of the SDGs.
