Ncell publishes update on its ongoing network expansion in Nepal

Axiata Group’s Nepalese unit Ncell Axiata has revealed that as part of the company’s service expansion and improvement drive in the last fiscal year 2022/23 it installed 338 new base transceiver stations (BTS) across the country. In a press release, the mobile operator said the 4G LTE service expansion will benefit people living in 55 rural and remote areas (in mountain, hilly, and Terai regions), such as the villages of Uttargaya Rural Municipality (Rasuwa), Thantikandh Rural Municipality (Dailekh), Durgathali Rural Municipality (Bajhang), Jantedhunga Rural Municipality (Khotang), and previously uncovered areas of Inaruwa Municipality (Siraha).

Ncell also reported the deployment of 283 new BTS to enhance quality of service (QoS) in more than 50 districts of the nation’s seven provinces, the majority of which were built in Lumbini Province, Sudurpaschim Province, Koshi Province and Madhesh Province, among others. Furthermore, in the last fiscal year, the company also upgraded nearly 1,450 sites in over 60 districts, in the process enhancing 4G network capacity; more than 780 sites were upgraded in municipalities and over 440 sites were upgraded in rural municipalities. Similarly, Ncell also upgraded the capacity of sites in metropolitan cities and sub-metropolitan cities to provide quality services to customers, boosting the total footprint to over 4,000 4G BTS across the country for the delivery of high speed mobile internet and voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) services to the carrier’s roughly 16 million subscribers.
