Russia’s Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) reports on its website that by end-2023 it will switch off 3G mobile services in the entirety of metropolitan Moscow and all other zones within the Central Ring Road of the Moscow region.
The process involves completing the refarming of 2100MHz 3G base stations to 4G LTE 2100MHz standard in the aforementioned zones, which MTS says will increase data speeds by 30% and network capacity by 28%. MTS’ LTE services in Moscow city/region operate in the 800MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz, 2600MHz FDD and 2600MHz TDD bands.
