State-backed Uzbek operator Uzbektelecom has expanded its fledgling 5G mobile network to Uzbekistan’s second largest city, Samarkand, the company announced on its website this week. More than 50 5G base transceiver stations (BTS) have been activated in Samarkand, the release noted.
In April 2023 Uzbektelecom switched on its 5G network with the first batch of over 60 5G BTS for users to test in the capital Tashkent. The operator aims to deploy 388 5G BTS in its first-phase rollout, followed by 325 BTS in a second phase, covering ‘all regional centres’.
