Telekom Malaysia reports data breach

Telekom Malaysia (TM) confirmed hackers breached its defences with the private information of customers from broadband provider unit Unifi affected.

New Strat Times reported, customer personal information had been affected including name, national IDs, passport and contact details. However, no financial information was affected, TM said in a statement.

"The company confirms that the breach has been contained and proactive steps have been taken to protect the data across its platforms.

"It has sent out notifications to customers informing them of the data breach and to be wary of phishing tactics including online scams, suspicious links and unsolicited phone calls,"

The operator group informed customers that service remained operational for affected accounts.

It has also reported the breach to the National Cyber Coordination and Command Centre, the Department of Privacy and Data Protection and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
