Jordan Ahli Bank has announced the launch of Qawn, a social payment app for customers and merchants, running on Thought Machine’s cloud-native core banking platform, Vault Core.
With Qawn, users can send and receive money and request payments from others through its in-app chat or using QR scan codes. Jordanians can also open a bank account remotely through the app, without needing to visit a branch.
Qawn also caters to businesses of all sizes and claims the onboarding process takes “a matter of minutes”. The app integrates with CliQ, a local payment switch in Jordan, which allows businesses to accept payments at a reduced cost.
“Our aim is to help people prosper by creating a social financial experience that addresses real-life problems with cutting-edge technology,” says Nidal Khalifeh, chief innovation officer at Jordan Ahli Bank.
“Money is inherently social, and we want to reinvent digital money with a social aspect. Our app is designed to be secure, user-friendly, and to offer guidance with a focus on technology.”
In 2020, Jordan Ahli Bank went live with Temenos’ Infinity system to cover its digital and mobile banking operations. Ahli Bank is a long-time user of Temenos’ core banking tech. The bank went live with T24 (now known as Transact) in November 2016 after a four-year implementation period.
