Hispasat readies infrastructure for Amazonas Nexus

Hispasat has secured the infrastructure deals required for its Amazonas Nexus satellite to begin operations.

The satellite was launched into space from Cape Canaveral, and will cover North and South America as well as Greenland and the northern and southern Atlantic corridors. Additionally, it features a Digital Transparent Processor (DTP) that will allow it to increase its geographic flexibility in the event of changes in the commercial scenarios initially proposed.

To allow Amazonas Nexus to enter into service, Hispasat has contracted Isotropic to build two gateways in the USA, and the satellite will be backed up by a third gateway at the INTA facilities in Gran Canaria. Hispasat has designed and developed these gateways and they will complement the already-deployed facility at the teleport of Hispamar, its Brazilian subsidiary.

Scheduled to begin operations from July 2024, these deployments will enable Hispasat to provide uplink and housing services to those customers interested in leasing space capacity on this satellite to operate it with their own baseband equipment. The firm will also provide a wholesale managed service over the Amazonas Nexus coverage using Gilat’s state-of-the-art SkyEdge IV platform. This platform will enable HISPASAT to provide its customers with the required connectivity wherever and whenever needed for air and maritime mobility services, cellular backhaul of 4G and 5G networks, corporate broadband internet access or government communications.
