Spimaco taps Google Cloud to transform digitally

Saudi Pharmaceutical Industries and Medical Appliances Corporation (Spimaco) has migrated its SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) workloads to Google Cloud in the largest digital transformation drive in the history of the company.

The project will enable the migration of 11 key applications from Spimaco’s on-premise SAP infrastructure to Google Cloud—without disruption to the business—as part of the company’s latest digital transformation drive.

Spimaco chose to partner with Google Cloud to strongly position the business for future growth, accelerate digital transformation, and support regulatory requirements. Google Cloud is one of the cloud providers in Saudi Arabia that provides solutions that support compliance with the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, a global standard in the pharmaceuticals sector. Google Cloud also has deep experience hosting many different SAP ERP systems in the country.

Growing footprint

Khaled Saleh Al Khattaf, Chief Executive Officer of Spimaco, said: “We aspire to grow our footprint in the pharmaceutical sector by expanding into nine new markets. This requires us to have a solid digital infrastructure that will help us achieve our business goals. Our collaboration with Google Cloud definitely sets us up for success as we gear up internally with the right resources.

“Our partners at Google Cloud have also gone beyond our expectations and invested in training our teams during the SAP migration project to ensure that the team is upskilled to the latest standards and is ready to lead the company into its next phase powered by the use of technology.”

Bader Almadi, KSA Country Manager at Google Cloud, added: “Spimaco has been an early adopter of technology in the pharmaceutical sector, with its factories and production facilities fully automated and powered by robotics since 2002. It is therefore no surprise that the company believes in the value of turning to the latest technologies to accelerate its growth further. Our collaboration can help Spimaco become more resilient, and will support the company to tap into more markets, acquire new business, and expand its footprint to new markets.”

On-premise

Before the commencement of the digital transformation project, Spimaco’s information technology (IT) infrastructure was on-premise, which meant that the company’s digital backend required a refresh and a new, more robust disaster recovery system to be implemented. Accordingly, Spimaco will migrate all 11 of its business systems to Google Cloud to enhance system performance and safeguard business continuity across the 13 countries where the company operates.

Cloudypedia, a Google Cloud infrastructure specialised partner, led the business systems migration project with Spimaco. Cloudypedia is specialised in providing cloud infrastructure services to build a green field of SAP environment or migrate existing SAP workloads from on premises or other cloud providers to Google Cloud.-- TradeArabia News Service
