Number of mobile connections up in Bangladesh

The number of active mobile connections saw a major increase of 18.1 lakh in February compared with that of January, according to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission’s latest data.

The data showed that, in February, the total number of mobile connections stood at 18.261 crore whereas in January it was 18.1 crore.

The number of mobile connections increased due to a rise in the connections of Grameenphone, Robi Axiata and Banglalink.

In February, the number of active mobile connections of Grameenphone, Robi Axiata and Banglalink were 7.99 crore, 5.51 crore and 4.1 crore respectively.

In January, the number of active mobile connections of Grameenphone, Robi Axiata and Banglalink were 7.94 crore, 5.46 crore and 4 crore respectively.

Grameenphone’s increase in connections came after the BTRC withdrew a ban on new SIM card sales by the operator on January 3.

On June 29, 2022, the BTRC had placed the suspension on new Grameenphone SIM card sales.

Moreover, the BTRC data showed that the number of active mobile internet connection of the country also increased by 9.2 lakh in February.

According to that data, in February, the total number of active mobile internet connections stood at 11.31 crore.

In January, the number of mobile internet connections stood at 11.22 crore.

The number of broadband connections showed no change and remained at 1.19 crore. The BTRC data showed that, in February, the number of internet connections in the country stood at 12.5 crore.
