MTN, Vodafone expand roaming in Ghana

MTN and Vodafone expanded a pilot roaming agreement nationwide in Ghana to bolster connectivity in the country, reported Ghana Web.

Vodafone Ghana CEO Patricia Obo-Nai said: “National roaming offers customers a greater choice of network providers. In 2022, we successfully collaborated with the government, the regulator, and MTN Ghana to pilot the national roaming service in the Volta Region. We are excited that this partnership has extended to other regions.”

Other regions to immediately experience the effect of national roaming between the two operators were not detailed.

The agreement is part of a wider strategy from the government to accelerate connectivity in Ghana, deliver universal access, and push digitalisation.

National roaming enables subscribers from either operator to connect to both networks and expand their connectivity reach.

The pilot for the scheme was first launched in the Volta region, where MTN had the bigger footprint and hosted Vodafone subscribers.

Rivals Glo and Airtel Tigo also penned a nationwide roaming agreement last year.
