The number of mobile phone subscribers in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 11 percent to 6,804,762 at the end of January 2023 this year
Statistics issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) said the number of postpaid mobile phone subscriptions increased by 28.9 percent 1,646,544.
The number of prepaid mobile phone subscriptions recorded a growth of 6.3 percent by the end of January 2023, to reach 5,158,218, while fixed-line subscriptions decreased by 1.3 percent, to reach 562,987 lines.
Subscriptions for analog fixed-line telephone lines (including prepaid and postpaid services) decreased by 13.7 percent compared to reach 235,308 lines, and the number of public telephones stabilized at 6,801 phones, while digital network service lines increased.
Integrated services increased by two percent to 49,732 lines. Fixed telephone subscriptions connected to Internet Protocol (IP) technology increased by 12.3 percent. Wireless fixed lines decreased by 28.3 percent to 836 lines.
The total number of fixed internet subscriptions reached 539,908, and the total number of fixed broadband service subscriptions - (more than 256 kilobytes / second), which includes digital leased lines (DSL) and fiber optics to homes (FTTH), the 4G (LTE) service, the satellite communications service, and the Internet Lease lines service was 538,182, while the number of low-speed Internet subscriptions (less than 256 kilobytes / s) that includes connectivity Dial-up and some leased Internet lines was 1,726.
The total number of active mobile broadband Internet subscriptions increased to 5,722,841 users, with an increase of 10 percent by the end of January 2023, compared to the end of January 2022.
The statistics showed that the total international capacity of the Internet amounted to 2, 492, 935 megabytes in January 2023, recording an increase of 63.9 percent compared to the end of January 2022 AD, while the number of leased local circuits reached about 5, 138 circuits, and the number of beneficiaries of telex lines stabilized at 116 lines.
The Governorate of Muscat accounted for the largest proportion of analog fixed-line lines, reaching 62.54 percent of the total lines, followed by the Governorate of North al Batinah with a rate of 11.07 percent, while the Governorate of Dhofar accounted for 8.27 percent, and the share of the remaining governorates of the Sultanate of Oman amounted to 18.11 percent by the end of January 2023.
