Windstar to launch high-speed starlink internet across global fleet

Windstar Cruises announced the launch of its Starlink Maritime high-speed satellite internet across its fleet, according to a press release.

The new broadband Starlink internet will enable Windstar Cruises to provide guests with high-speed connections both while sailing and when in port.

“I am thrilled to be working with Anuvu and Starlink to offer our guests the latest in satellite technology,” said Gregg Wagner, technology director, Windstar Cruises.

“When the ships are inside the service area, faster speeds will alleviate much of the frustration felt at peak use times.”

Windstar Cruises launched the internet on the Star Pride recently and the cruise plans on plans implementing Starlink across most of its global fleet by mid-2023. The company will implement Starlink on the Star Legend this spring, followed by implementations on the Wind Surf, Wind Star, and Star Breeze. Windstar will activate Starlink on the Wind Spirit as soon as it’s available in French Polynesia.

“Starlink is yet to be available worldwide, but Windstar Cruises is excited to be among the first in the cruise industry to offer this cutting-edge technology. The addition of high-speed internet service with our current geostationary satellite service will enable guests to stay connected to family and friends,” added Wagner.

The Windstar Cruises fleet currently uses a geostationary satellite service, Anuvu, to provide internet access. The addition of Starlink technology will improve the existing connection and make it faster and more reliable.
