Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif held a crucial meeting today with high-level officials regarding the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) and emphasized that the technology sector is now the cornerstone of Pakistan’s economic growth. He emphasized that STZA should become a top priority for the government to make Pakistan a global technology destination.
The Prime Minister has constituted a committee, led by the Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar, to submit recommendations within a week. The other members include the Minister of IT and Telecom, the Minister of Law, Chairman BOI, Senator Afnan Ullah, Advisor to PM Mr. Ahad Cheema, Special Assistant to PM Jahanzeb Khan, and Chairman CDA. He further directed that relevant field experts should be present on the STZA Board of Governors.

The Prime Minister was briefed about the impressive interest shown by several hundred companies in STZA, with 63% being Pakistani companies and the rest from China, America, Turkey, and other countries. The PM has directed the Authority to implement measures actively and effectively on a priority basis to boost the country’s technology sector and materialize the investments to enhance innovation and entrepreneurship across the country.

Pakistan has a wealth of untapped potential in the technology sector and, with appropriate measures, it can become a major player in the global technology ecosystem.
